starting at 6:45am
Wilmette, IL 60091
The swim will be in the beautiful Lake Michigan with expected water temperatures in the low 70s. Wetsuits will be allowed so long as the water temperature remains below 78 degrees Fahrenheit. Certified lifeguards will monitor the swim course as per USAT regulations. The swim will be a wave start beginning at 6:45AM and is a point-to-point swim in a straight line along the lakefront.
The out and back course will leave the transition area in Gillson Park and head north up Sheridan Road along the lakefront. The course doubles back on itself, and all riders will take two loops of the course before heading back to transition. Helmets are required as per ANSI and USAT standards.
The scenic, single-loop run course will leave the transition area and head south along Sheridan Road before doubling back just before Linden Avenue to follow Sheridan Road north up to Central Avenue. Runners will follow Central west to 4th Street, where they will head south before continuing west on Greenleaf Avenue until the turnaround at 11th Street, where the course will double back on itself and take them all the way to the finish line! There will be two aid stations with fluids set up along the 3.1 mile run course.

The North Shore Triathlon prides itself on creating an event that is fun and welcoming for athletes of ALL ability levels. As an event deeply rooted in community involvement and celebrating an active, healthy lifestyle, we hope to continue to appeal to both triathlon veterans and first-timers, and everyone in between. In order to make the event as enjoyable as possible for ALL of our participants, we have designed a swim start procedure that caters to a wide range of race goals.
To accommodate athletes of all ability levels, the North Shore Triathlon is splitting our swim start into two groups: Age Group and Novice. You are responsible for selecting the start group that best fits your ability and race goals.
Age Group Waves
These waves will kick off first, starting at 6:45 AM, and are best suited for our more competitive athletes and/or athletes who have participated in other triathlons in the past and/or are familiar and comfortable with the flow of events. Waves will take off at 3:00 minute intervals until all of the Age Group Waves have been sent off.
These waves will kick off 10:00 minutes after the final Age Group Wave has departed (at approximately 7:15 am). These waves are best suited for athletes new to triathlon, and/or athletes who would prefer a more relaxed and less-crowded swim start and triathlon experience. These waves will take off at a 4:00 minute intervals until the last swimmer has crossed the start line.
We are pleased to announce that we will be able to offer early bike racking for the North Shore Triathlon. Athletes must pick up their packets and properly label their equipment prior to racking their bikes on Saturday or Sunday.
Saturday, September 13 from 2:00 - 4:00PM
at transition in Gillson Park
Sunday, September 14 from 5:00 - 6:30AM
at transition in Gillson Park
TRANSITION WILL OPEN AT 5:00AM ON RACE MORNING AND CLOSE PROMPTLY AT 6:30AM.
There will be overnight security at Gillson Park from Saturday to Sunday to safeguard our participants' equipment. That said, please be aware that in choosing to rack your bike on Saturday, you are doing so at your own risk and the North Shore Triathlon and our partners are not responsible for any loss or damages to your equipment.
i. While there is no official cutoff time for the race, the course will officially re-open to the public at 9:30 AM. At that time, any athletes who are still on the run course will be moved to the sidewalks to complete the event. Volunteers will remain on the course to make sure that race participants can safely complete the event even after the roads re-open.
The official Age Group Awards Ceremony will kick off at 9:30 AM. At this time, awards will be distributed to the overall winners, as well as age group winners for individual age groups. Official race times will be posted at regular intervals until all athletes have crossed the finish line, so if you won an age group award but missed the official ceremony, you can still collect your award before finishing! All athletes are eligible for age group awards regardless of their swim start group.
While there may be very limited parking available in the lot directly across from the Gillson Park beach house, we strongly encourage athletes to utilize the two organized drop-off points for themselves and their gear within the park. These drop-off points must be cleared no later than 6:15 AM to ensure the safety of our athletes as they head out on the bike and run courses.
There is street parking available near and around Gillson Park, though be mindful that portions of streets used for the race will be closed while the race is under way. There are larger parking lots at Plaza del Lago and the Metra station in Wilmette.
